Ways to Refresh Your Home for the New Season
As the days grow longer and nature bursts into bloom, there’s no better time to invite the uplifting energy of Spring into your home. A few seasonal touches in your space can make so much difference. After the stillness of winter, a seasonal refresh breathes new life into your space, creating an atmosphere that feels light, vibrant, and full of renewal. Here are some of my favourite, simple yet effective ways to bring a hint of Spring indoors.
1. Embrace Fresh Flowers and Greenery
My brand is totally inspired by nature and the changing seasons, so it goes hand in hand that flowers and plants are my vibe, Nothing signifies the arrival of Spring quite like fresh seasonal blooms, or spring bulbs in aged terracotta pots. A vase of daffodils, tulips, or hyacinths instantly adds colour and a veil of floral scent to your home. If you prefer something longer-lasting, potted plants like ferns or peace lilies bring a touch of greenery, (while purifying the air as an added bonus). I have pots of bulbs all around my home at the moment, my particular favourites being white mascari and little yellow tete a tete. Hello Petal have great seasonal kits you can buy to do at home. For an extra seasonal feel, try arranging freshly cut branches of blossoms or eucalyptus in a statement vase. I also love to buy a few preserved foliage, (rather than faux), as they look beautiful and last about a year. Etsy is great for sourcing these, (and usually from small business), so just type in preserved foliage or similar.
Top tip - Florists will often sell you large bunches of eucalyptus fairly inexpensively. Let it dry out by reducing the water, and you will end up with some long lasting foliage
2. Switch to Lighter Fabrics
It is a running joke in my house that I love a blanket If I am sitting watching tv or relaxing with a book, I will usually be snuggled under a blanket. I am all about the cosy vibes. But this time of year I do say goodbye to heavy throws. I tend to have a little refresh by swapping them for lighter textures such as worn, crumpled linen in cream and fresh whites. All the linen quilt covers come out, and the scatter cushions are swapped over. This year I am even making some of my own! Throw back the heavy curtains and let all that gorgeous Spring sunshine flood in. It is like natures anti-depressant.
3. Refresh Your Home Fragrances
Scents play a powerful role in setting the mood of a space. Mood boosting essential oils in particular can instantly make you feel calmer, cosier, uplifted etc. So as we transition into Spring, swap out your heavier, warming blends for fresh, uplifting fragrances that evoke the feeling of freshness. Citrus, lavender, eucalyptus, and fresh florals like jasmine or neroli are perfect choices. Our well-being candles, inspired by nature’s changing seasons, offer an effortless way to introduce these scents into your home. Lighting a candle with a bright, refreshing scent notes can instantly lift your mood and create a serene atmosphere. My picks for Spring would be New Hope, Be Balanced, Ammil, Nerola, Bohemia or First Light. All have the fresh, cleansing notes perfect for Spring. You can find them all here.
4. Declutter and Reorganize
Spring is synonymous with renewal, which is why so many of us feel the urge to "Spring Clean" . It just feels like the perfect time to declutter and embrace a ‘less is more’ approach. But it isnt just your home that declutters. Research has shown that decluttering actually calms our head space. Store away winter accessories, donate items you no longer need, and reorganise your living space to create an open, welcoming environment. A tidy, refreshed space naturally fosters a sense of calm and clarity. As the saying goes, a tidy space, a tidy mind!
5. Introduce Pops of Colour
A simple way to transition your home into Spring is by adding small bursts of colour. Think pastel greens, the softest nude pinks, and hints of pastel yellow through cushions, artwork, or decorative pieces. Even something as simple as colourful ceramic vases, a framed bit of art or a bright table runner can instantly inject energy into a room. Our refillable ceramic candles in Antique Rose or Olive Green could be just what you are looking for....
Top tip - If you have book shelves in your main living areas, have a little rearrange of them to inject some pops of colour with your brighter reads.
6. Bring the Outdoors In
I have already mentioned my love of bringing nature indoors, but flowers and plants do not have to be the only way. Take inspiration from nature by incorporating organic elements and textures into your decor. This may be the stage when I mention that I have a HUGE obsession with baskets....no really....I am obsessed. But, hear me out. Seagrass or wicker baskets, wooden accents, and stone textures add warmth, varied texture and depth. Simply swapping a metal or mirrored tray out for a beautiful natural one can change the whole aesthetic of a room. I recently picked up this wicker vase from Tilly and Ted homeware, and filled it with eucalyptus. It is one of my favourite things at the moment.
Opening windows at any opportunity to let in the fresh air and natural sunlight also helps brighten up your home, reinforcing that sense of renewal and freshness. It lifts your spirits and just makes you feel good.
And Lastly......
Spring is a time of new beginnings, and your home should reflect that feeling of lightness and joy. Nature will always be the best guide when it comes to living in harmony with the seasons. With just a few thoughtful changes, you can create a space that feels fresh, uplifting, and gently connects us back to nature.
